About

On Thursday, August 30, 2007, our beloved Ruben T. Edmond, affectionately known as "R.T.", entered into eternal rest.

He was born April 26, 1915, the eldest son of nine children born to the lat Saul and Estelle Edmond in Tillery, North Carolina. He was educated in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina. He accepted Christ early in his life and became a member of Galilee Baptist church in Tillery, North Carolina. He was married to the late Betty Hill Edmond for sixty nine years and God blessed their union with five children.

He was employed by the Naval Operations Base (NOB) in Norfolk, Virginia as a tractor trailer driver, which afforded him the opportunity to serve his country during World War II, transporting parts and supplies in support of the war effort. He retired after twenty years of service and began a new career with the City of Norfolk, Department of Sanitation, where he served an additional twenty years. He received numerous awards and citations from the Federal Government and the City of Norfolk during his employment.

He joined Second Calvary Baptist Church in 1975 and served as a member of the Pastor’s Aide Auxiliary, Calling Committee, Church Anniversary Committee, Pastor’s Council, Church Fundraiser Committee, and Male Ushers’ Ministry. He also served as Assistant Head Usher and Head Usher. He was instrumental in the growth of the Men’s Sunday School Class and the Male Ushers’ Ministry. He contributed freely and cheerfully to the financial support of the Church throughout his membership. He was the Father of the Year Award and was most recently honored with the Implement the King Dream Award. He was one of the first drivers of the Church Bus and drove through the community picking up persons for Sunday School and taking Church groups on trips.
