Almira Menzie-Barnes slipped into Eternal rest March 25, 2008. She was born in St. Mary Jamaica West Indies, September 28, 1915. She has been residing in Norfolk since 1990.

She will be long remembered by her children, Albert Mitchell of Norfolk, VA, Fitzgerald Plunkett of Braeton, Jamaica, West Indies, and Icilda Young of Braeton, Jamaica West Indies; her 24 grand children including grandsons, Mark Davis and Leroy Smikle-Mitchell and granddaughters, Saleen Mitchell of Houston, TX and Shona Mitchell of Miami FL; Tashi Bennett one of 59 great grand children and her 15 great-great grand children, and a host of relatives and dear friends.

She was predeceased by daughter Adaphne Mitchell.
